About Walter E. Washington Convention Center
The Walter E. Washington Convention Center is the largest building in Washington, D.C., spanning 2.3 million square feet across 15 acres (8 city blocks) in the heart of downtown. Named in 2006 in honor of the city’s first home rule mayor (1967-1979), the center opened in 2003 and serves as the District’s premier convention and events facility, operated by Events DC. The facility features over 703,000 square feet of exhibition space, 198,000 square feet of meeting space with 77 breakout rooms, and the largest ballroom in the region at 52,000 square feet. The center is one of only four convention centers in the U.S. to achieve LEED Platinum certification and the first in the world to earn the WELL Health-Safety Rating (2022). The center is directly served by the Mount Vernon Square/7th St-Convention Center Metro station on the Yellow and Green lines. This provides easy access from Reagan National Airport and throughout the D.C. metro area.
Permanent hang points are installed throughout Halls A, B, and C on a grid of approximately 10 ft east-west by 15 ft north-south. Points on main steel truss panel points are rated for up to 25,000 lbs. All rigging must be executed by GLP, the exclusive rigging service provider.
Only propane, dual fuel, and electric boom lifts and forklifts are permitted. Diesel lifts are not allowed at any time. Super Towers (ST25) and Super Lifts are permitted but must be secured from ceiling structure.
